Has anyone tried putting a bike rack on the front of their vehicle. I have looked at the roof top racks but you can't put bikes on until after you've packed up, I like the idea of putting the bikes on in advance. Any ideas?

I would think that in front of your TV they would need to have a good cleaning after you got where you were going just to get the bug juice off. I thought of it but didn't want to resrick my sight.

I did that exact thing on my GMC truck. It works very well. jemrick, another member here, has done the same thing and really likes it.

We mounted 2" receiver hitches under the front bumper and use a receiver mount bike rack.

I had a bike rack on the front of my '90 Ranger when I had it...it fastened into a receiver. I also had a ball on it and found it useful to push my pup into some campsites that were to hard to back into

I am thinking of doing this for my Jeep Wrangler, mounting a new front bumper with a receiver built in, (the Jeep needs a stouter bumper than the stock one anyways)and mounting the bikes up front. The top of the pup is storage for the kayaks.

Has anyone tried the bike carrier that mounts around the hitch? I found one by a company called Swagman. It looks like it may be a good option to a camper roof mount, as long as the front bed is stowed.

You can also look at vehicle mounted roof systems - Thule and Yakima both make excellent systems that can accomidate bikes, canoes, and kayaks.

Can't mount a Yakima or Thule system on top of my Jeep with a soft top. Just my own situation. Might be the way to go for many others.

The problem with the "around the hitch" racks is that they add to the "tongue weight" applied to the receiver. Also, depending on the rack, you may have to use an extension on the ball to allow the camper to turn without hitting the bikes.

Uhaul sells a hitch similar to what DD mentioned, for only $45 which includes shipping and handling. I ordered one but havent put on yet.

I use my front mount from time to time. It's a great way to offset tongue weight on the TV.

Front receiver and bike rack mounted on the front of my pickup , I use a swagman cradle style , works great, no overheating, headlight not too restricted, and. Bike handlebars slightly above hood height so not bad to see through
