Park Info: Located just a 35-minute drive from downtown Boston, Wompatuck State Park offers 262 wooded campsites (140 of them with electricity), 12 miles of paved bicycle trails, and many miles of wooded bridle paths and hiking trails. The park is very popular with trailer campers: electrical and water hookups are available. Fishing is allowed in the Cohasset Reservoir. A boat ramp is provided for car-top boats, but no boat trailers, please.

One of the most notable features of the Park is Mt. Blue Spring which is a popular source of fresh drinking water. Visitors can help themselves for free. The park is named for an Indian chief the local colonists knew as Josiah Wompatuck. In 1665, Chief Wompatuck deeded the park and the surrounding land to the English settlers. During WWII the park was used as an ammunition depot by the US military.

I'd like to add that this campground is not far from the Commuter Rail (W Gingham) or a park/ride Red Line T (subway) station in Braintree, for those who like to go see some of the sites in the city (Boston) but do not want to tackle the city driving. Personally I feel using the T (subway) is the best (easiest) way to get around Boston.

If there is interest (let me know), I'll plan a few city day tours utilizing the T for those who'd like to have a 'tour guide' who is familiar with the city.

We're planning on being there for at least part of this rally. Plymouth (Plimoth) Plantation, Quincy (John Adams historic sites), cruiser USS Salem, even the start of Cape Cod aren't far from this campground.

The Friends of Wompatuck State Park (FOW), an all volunteer, not for profit group, was incorporated in early 2006 for the purpose of educating the public about the park's uses and historical value as well as helping the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation preserve, maintain, and enhance the assets, history, and other features within the park.

    Here is their site: http://www.friendsofwompatuck.org

I want to let everyone know that there are two laundromats within a 15 minute drive of the park. One is even across the street from Nantasket Beach (which also answers the question of how close beaches are to Wompatuck State Park). I figured this information would be helpful, especially to those with children, being that this is an extended vacation rally [CP]

We camped at Wompatuck 2 years ago on the 4th of July. The town of Hingham had a really nice 4th of july parade and they played old fashioned baseball (using 1863rules and equipment) in town which was very cool! We are going to try to make this rally.

We spent a weekend there last season. The bathrooms are old, but the campground host cleaned them at least twice a day. I had no issues using the facilities or the showers there. [2C]

and if anyone is going to have issues it's BenFrench [LOL] (how could I not!?)

He is right though, bathrooms (& showers) have always been clean, and cleaned a few times a day during the times I've been there. They have doors that spring close too, so it limits the bugs getting in. I understand the question, especially since my PopUp has no amenities (at all), so if clean and functioning is what she is looking for she should not have any problems with them

Thanks guys! This rally is very intriging. I am seriously considering attending as this was one of the destinations on next years list. It would be neat to camp with my fellow Popup Bretherin.

Just got back from Wompatuck. My DH & I went over to Hingham Harbor (less than 3 miles from the park entrance) they have a nice community park with a beach area and public boat dock (calm harbor, ideal for saltwater kayaking, canoeing, etc). Plenty of free parking. We had lunch at 'STARS on Hingham Harbor', I had one of their house specialty burgers - The Juicy Lucy* - I recommend it!
