Stayed 2 nights at this beautiful high country CG in our pup - May 2017. First time staying here and we were all impressed.

The road into the hills from quaint Pecos, NM is often narrow and winding. It follows the Pecos river quite a ways up towards the headwaters in the mountains. Stop in at the general store in Tererro, NM to get ice, snacks, etc., and to see the hummingbirds. All summer it's an aerial display of hummingbird shenanigans on the front deck.

Pulling a camper on this road requires some pulling power. Our Kia Sedona had enough guts (just barely!) with it's V6 to just get us up the really steep parts of this road with pup in tow + a full load of water.

There are no hookups at this CG, but each site has a table and fire ring. There are shaded sites as well as some that are in the meadow in full sun.

Facilities: Vault toilets were in excellent condition. Very clean. Latest technology + venting system = No stinky action! (happy daughters)... There is potable water available, but again - no hookups. Trails into the backcountry start at this CG and at many other sites nearby. Waterfalls, creeks, and some great small stream fishing. Excellent views of peaks above treeline. Two thumbs up. We will return!

The TH from Jack's Creek is one my husband uses when he hikes or backpacks into the Pecos Wilderness. Jack's is about 2 hours from our house. We had plans to camp there earlier this year, but canceled, so maybe next year. Since it's FCFS, the plan is to have me drive up mid-week, get camp set up, and DH will drive up after work on Thursday. That way, we won't be competing with as many folks for campsites good for our TT.
Last I knew, they had some sites that shared a driveway - great for family or friends, not so wonderful to share with strangers.

There is a couple of sites on the right just as you enter the campground that are good for small TT.
