Learned this from my father and my kids do it and when granddaughter is old enough she will learn it too. It's not only for trash but there have been times I find something that didn't get put away and would have been missed next trip.

The Boy Scouts taught me how to police a site when leaving a campsite. I do this every time I break camp, anything that doesn't belong is picked up, not just trash. Much of what I pick up was from previous campers. I start picking up bits of trash, cigarette butts, etc. as soon as I get set up and do a final sweep just before I pull away.

I like hearing that other campers are considerate. It's so sad going to a site that is dirty. We will clean when we arrive and before we leave. And we always try to leave our fire stick for the next people, too.
