bpike: Yes....you bet! a MINI Cooper! It tows great!

Here is a preview of the paint job...sorry for the photo quality. I used my phone camera. I think one coat of the red will actually do it...this is great paint! I have one more coat of the roof coating to put on once it warms back up. Also, all the lights are being replaced, including the tail lights and side markers (all L.E.D.s). I'm also thinking about putting a third brake light above or on the spare tire.

I bought 12" wheels to replace the 8" original size...have to drop the axle before they will fit, unfortunately.

More pics to come as progress is made! It's supposed to be back up to near 60 degrees tomorrow and Thursday, so maybe I can get some more done on it.

Can't help you with the paint, but have fun at the dragon. Another great run is up 321 thru Wears Valley from Townsend into Pigeon Forge.

Well, I thought I would update this thread with current pics. My trip to the MINI rally is in a couple weeks, so I finally pushed the trailer out of the back yard and hooked it up to the car. I ended up dropping the axle and putting larger/new wheels on the camper, partly to get it to sit level while towing. I am limited to the kind of drawbar I can put in my hitch because of the way it attaches to the car, so I chose to give the trailer a "lift". At any rate, the trailer pulled great on my trip up to visit my family (an hour each way). No troubles.

Anyway, here are the pics. Against the car, the color really doesn't match. It's going to drive me nuts I think. I may just have to live with it, but it is too brown/orange and not "ruby" enough in color. I'm still exploring my options on the paint. I don't mind painting it again....it only takes about 15 minutes to roll a coat on the trailer....of course now I have to take the lights back off to do it, but that's o.k.

I'm exploring auto paint now. I know I can get it color matched, just have to figure out how to properly prep the camper now that it's been coated with enamel.

btw, I'm having a custom bumper sticker made for the back of the trailer that has a MINI emblem on it and reads "towed by a clown car". haha

Slick! You've got a really cool rig there. I wouldn't apologize for the color. You got very close to the mini color without dropping mega bucks.
Love your tail lights. Could you post some details in the mods thread? I love the light on the spare carrier, and wondering what all you did there. At any rate, congrats, and you have a cool, light weight rig. Be proud!

Hey Tekboy. I will do that once it's all finished. I'd go snap pics of it now, but all of the lights and the spare are off of it again today. I ended up paying a visit to the Sherwin Williams store again (actually, 2 SW stores...the first store was manned by a moron and I couldn't get it through to him what I was trying to do...so I said thanks and went to another location. Good grief!)

Anyway, "pompei red" is a color in their exterior accent paint and is almost a dead on match with my car. It can only be made in the acrylic latex gloss, though....but that's o.k. people here (actually, I think it was you, Tekboy) have told me that they have used latex gloss with good results, so I decided to try it. So...I deglossed the newly painted red oil gloss that I put on a week or so ago (grrr...) and went at it. It's drying right now, so we will see how she goes when it's all dry This particular paint is made from a red base (tinted at the factory) so it is supposed to be pretty color fast. Only time will tell. It is VERY red....one shade off of what they call "primary red".

I'll post pics when it's all done.

Oh, my latest idea (actually my dad's idea" is to paint a great big Union Jack flag on the top! Thinking about how to do that now.

Yes I had good luck with gloss latex enamel. It's a year and a half old now and looking great with no delamination, dulling and stuff like that. I know a good color match is important for you... can't wait to see the new red on your camper. And that camper with a Union Jack on the lid... that would be an attention grabber for sure! If you pull that off you've got to post about it!
