    Howdy all!

I was just wondering if anyone has camped the Texas Renaissance Festival near Plantersville in Todd Mission?

I have gone every year now for the last five years, but I have never camped out there for the weekend.

I have enough time off this year that I was hoping to camp this time.

I know its dry camping. (No worries there, ALL my camping is dry camping lol)

Anyone have anything good bad or in between to say about it?

    Thanks!

omg. yes 20 years worth of "camping" at TRF.
Things are better now than they used to be in some aspects. bigger grounds, more partying.
it's a mosh pit of a party out there ! crazy heatherns, but mostly really good people.
the SERIOUS rennies is who you want to camp with.

there's 10,000 people in tents and maybe 150 in RVs but the rv people run generators. i was there halloween weekend & got no sleep due to an industrial generator.
it set off my CO2 detector! twice!

they now have water , showers convenience stores & food vendors & porta potties. & armed security for drunks, etc.
$25 to camp, must have gate tickets.
beats the heck out of driving & far away fleabite hotels.

take all your normal gear. no sites, fcfs. ( i like the rows, 5-9, easy walk to front gate.) read the rules!
    message me for more info.

@Kat: Thanks for the info! I'm friends with quite a few of those "Serious" Rennies that you speak of. They all say go for it. I've read all the rules and such online, and after what you have to say, I am leaning that way.
My main concern would be security (of my ice chest full of beer [LOL]) (joking...not really). Obviously with a pup, "locking" is kind of a joke. But I figure I can lock valuables in the truck during the day. The weather next weekend (Nov. 19-20) looks like its gonna be fantastic for the faire in general.
To be honest, the MAIN reason I really wanna camp this year is that my girlfriend made us some kick ** costumes. (She is a costumer for live theatre by trade). And I wanna rock the costume for more than just a day [LOL]

@Skeeter Yeah man! I always have a blast when I go. Its always fun to walk around and see the shows (and the people!) . I make it a point to go every year.

Well I think I've got a new item on the bucket list. It's always a fun time seeing all the costumes people come up with. We ALL know, that as a man, how can you NOT go after you been dragged there once!? Yall know what I'm talking about! Plus the food, and the shows, the booths (always surprising to see what people come up with to sell at the festival), and of course just an all around fun atmosphere.

I noticed you mentioned the one in Todd mission, which is probably why I never knew you could camp, because I go to the one in Waxahachie. Todd mission is 230 miles away [LOL] either way, a good 4 day weekend would fix that! If you ever find your way to the Waxahachie venue don't forget to swing by the haunted restaurant while you're here, that's always a fun time.

Oh i know what you are talking about! [:D]

Hahaha 230 miles is a trek! I've never been to the one in Waxahachie. Only 155 miles from me. A bit closer then your trip to Todd Mission would be! Lol.

The one in the wax becomes a haunted theme park during the Halloween time of year that's always a good time as well. The park does tend to get a bit crowded considering proximity to the dfw area, but as stated before more "costumes" to enjoy [:D] [LOL]

seriously, its 99% safe. the real rennies - folks in full garb - are there to play and they respect everyone. if you have friends that do the show, camp near them as you can. they will squeeze you in. they are also well armed and will cut off the hands of a petty thief.

if no rennie patron friends, try the rows. see the map, if I can attach it.

at night, Armed police security is out, keeping an eye on things. naked jenga or shooters for hooters, rv movies (some sof porn) is ok, beligerence is not. only problems with "quiet family camping" is the incoming traffic- incessant on friday night, and the lack of trees. it is closer to the showers & camp store. (as well stocked as any at a state park)

its as wild as any biker rally. but safe enough that I took my Mom TENT camping for 15 years till she got the pop up i inherited. so. GO
I have had deluxe setups out there and nothing bad happened, except a lot of tourist checking out my setup, when I used a tent and a cargo trailer converted to a mobile kitchen. (my design & set up.)

"honey, I camp, but I aint roughing it."

and if it even has a hint of rain any weekend you go, take a tarp and cover your tent or popup.
it can rain like a hurricane out there. been there during a fierce storm. I've had my tent flooded, and ended up sleeping in the truck. advantage of popup off ground.
here's my tent before the popup, fully covered. I didnt get wet!
another advantage of ROWs is the ground is pack hard from years of parking, so you wont sink in the mud.

you will notice that CAMPING is twice the size of Faire (insides.)
king is making money out there.

an dif you are looking for fine gemstone jewelry, tell my employer, the beautiful Lucia, of Lucia's inspired Jewelry that I sent you. tell her KAT sent me.
