2022 Rockwood 2280LTD Travel Door Won't Open With Roof Completely Closed

Hello! I have a new 2022 Rockwood 2280LTD (manufactured Sept., 2021), and when we have the camper all the way down and latched, we can’t open the travel door. Does anyone know if that is the way it’s supposed to be, or if there’s an adjustment we can make so it doesn’t come so far down that we can’t open the door? It seems counterintuitive that you wouldn’t have access to the camper at all until you pop it up 1-2”, but it does also make it more secure and unlikely to pop open during transport. This happens at all times, including when parked on our level concrete garage floor, and there isn’t anything caught or in the way from the inside of the camper. The roof frame is just in the way, and I’m worried about damaging the door or rubber seal if I force it. The door itself fits perfectly in the opening, so lowering the hinges slightly isn’t an option (not that I’d want to put additional holes in the door frame). Thanks! IMG_3166.JPEG IMG_3167.JPEG

Yup, same as my E2. I just unlatch the roof on the curbside, unlock the travel door, and lift up the roof 1/2 inch. What blocks mine is the snap for the travel door restraint. Sometimes I will even use a flathead screwdriver to get the snap past the roof edge.

I have a 2003 Viking and I can open the door without raising the top, but it causes damage to the upper door seal. So like PopUpSteve, I unlatch and raise the top about an inch or so and then open the door. It's a lot easier on the seal that way.

Thank you all for your replies. I have a note out to my dealer and Forest River to see if they will send me the door dimensions, just in case I got the wrong travel door. It is definitely more secure, but I'd like to be able to open the travel door, if possible, with the trailer closed.

You basically have the same unit as I have in my signature. Same door design and box style. A pretty standard design. The door is designed to fit under the top so as to also not get water intrusion. We have to lift the top an inch or 2 on ours as well when wanting to get in, but I'd rather do that than damage the seal, or worse, have water intrusion. Only takes an extra couple minutes.

As others have mentioned some of the older popups would allow you to enter the door without the top being opened any at all. My first popup years ago was a 1994 Starcraft Starlite and we could open the door, and also as that was mentioned, the door seal took a beaten at the same time. Water intrusion is NOT your best friend.

With our 1999 Palomino Filly SC I have to raise the roof slightly to open the door. It's aggravating sometimes, but at least there is not water intrusion. I've had the thought of putting in an access panel in the door, just large enough to put the roof crank through, but: #1 I'm cheap and #2 I'd hate to mess up the integrity of the door.
