A small point on circuit breakers

The installation manual for my Redarc Tow-Pro electric brake controller calls for a 30A self resetting cicuit breaker in the supply line from the battery. But this power ultimately would go out into the 14 Gage wire in the factory-installed tow harness in my 2011 Jeep Liberty. 14AWG wire is only good for 15A.

So I will be putting in a 15A breaker.

The measured load from the pair of ebrake magnets on my single axle trailer is only 6.4A max, so my breaker is still way larger than the maximum draw.

The Tow-Pro Liberty will only pass 18A of current.

The actual current carrying capacity of AWG 14 is 20A if it has 75C insulation, and 25A with 90C insulation. Of course the voltage drop would be high at those amperages.

I just used a 30A fuse.
