Anyone use these? Consumer Reports says they are well worth every penny. Im skeptical.

Evaporative coolers aka swamp coolers do work great in very dry environments like Phoenix, but for most of the country where we have humidity, they don't work any better than fans.

Yup.

When you see the percentage humidity outside, its based on what percentage of full saturation the air is. 100% humidity doesn't mean that the air is now liquid, but it does mean that its so full of water vapour that it cannot possibly evaporate any more.

Evaporative cooling is great - heat goes into the liquid water, then gets wicked away as the water goes into the air. But when the humidity is 85% (here in Montreal it was 118F and 85% humidity yesterday) a swamp cooler accomplishes just about nothing at all

Moving the air is all that's left in high humidity, especially if the Air Conditioner is overwhelmed and starting to frost over...

Those things suck in anything close to a humid environment. Only really good for spot cooling like at a desk. I wouldn't bother using one camping unless you normally went to desert environments. Here in TX swamp cooling only really works out west. Too humid everywhere else.

We bought one, in Florida, to assist the sad little AC in the 2018 Aliner Scout. The AC could pull some humidity out, so we ran the evaporative cooler on the other side of the camper. It was amazing how fast it went through water. Always run it dry before storing.

We see all the weather. Its not that it's cold in Canada year round, its that we see a much wider range of temperatures, and that range is getting wider (in both directions) every year. Extreme cold and extreme hot. Very short spring and autumn

If you don't like the weather in Montreal, wait a day. It'll change
