Hello - I'm new to this but have owned a 92 Starcraft Meteor (8ft box) for about 20 years. I am wanting to replace the awning on the trailer and was shocked at the price for them and don't/can't spend that much. Just the times maybe. I found some reasonable deals online but they are all in the USA. I live in Canada and they won't ship here. Anything I could find here was about $1000 which is more than the trailer is worth (at least to other people). Does anyone have a good DIY solution or other suggestions? Thanks!!

Thanks - I actually saw that too. I contacted them and the problem is they won't ship here (Canada). It seemed like a good deal so it was unfortunate.

Could a camping trip to the USA be in the cards?

I purchased a Dometic 944NT11.002 Trim Line Case Awning - Azure - 11 Foot Length from Hanna RV in Oak Creek, WI (HannaRV.com) about this time last year for $400.

One option is a homemade using a tarp, tent poles, coax cable, and duct tape.

We do enjoy the Lake Placid area and it certainly is a good consideration. I like your coax cable idea! I'm assuming you would sew or tape that into the tarp to slide into the awning track? I have made one with rope, but the coax would be more rigid and easier to thread through I think. Thanks for your ideas!

I had a rope and poly tarp on my Meteorite. The roof edge of the tarp was folded around the rope and clamped by some additional grommet eyes. For transport the poles were used as a core and rolled the tarp around them. The rolled tarp was secured with strips of hook&loop passed through the added eyelets. Maybe $30 total expenditure for tarp, rope, grommets and tool.

looked like this when set up:

Thanks! I decided to do something similar but used coax cable and a heavy duty tarp. A little tight to fit in the c-channel attachment but it worked with a bit of elbow grease. Thanks for the tips!!

I had a new bag made for my awning by a business specializing in marine upholstery and sails. My awning was in good shape, albeit missing a pole, and they just replicated the tattered bag perfectly. I replaced the missing pole with a telescoping pole from Bass Pro Shop. Hope this helps.

I bought an 11' Dometic bag awning 3 yrs ago when ours got wrecked from a dealer in south western Ontario. It was roughly $500 with taxes. Its probably gone up in price since then, but not to the amount you're mentioning. Where are you located?
