Banff - Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court

I'm pretty lucky. The town of Banff is only a 95 minute drive from my front door. Banff National Park is huge and has several campgrounds. We got lucky and got a spot for last week, August 24 to 28. I won't say anything about the park itself, there is tons of information online about it.

I will comment on the campground we were in, Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court.
We went to the dark side, but hopefully the information will help others.

It's a full service site which was great for us. We could keep to our selves due to Covid-19. The site itself was good, the sites aren't back in or classic pull through. You can pull through them but they are parallel to the road, not perpendicular. We still had plenty of room for the kids to play and set up the wife's hammock. Some other sites in the campground were much smaller and close to others. Make sure to check the map and photos on the reservation website. I also found a video of someone driving through the entire campground you can find on YouTube.

The sign said it was full when we were there but didn't feel crowded. It was quiet during the day, a bit noisier at night due to everyone being back at their sites. The campground was nicely located, you can get to the town easily and there were loads of trails and bike paths that started there. Depending on your site you can get lots of trees or a more open feel. Some of the sites closest to the road had amazing views of the mountains.

Getting a reservation can be tough, they open up the system in February or March and the booking window is for the entire year. Typically the system crashes so some luck is needed to get high demand weekends.

Overall we really liked the campground and site. We plan on adding it to our list of places we enjoyed staying at.

We loved heading up to Tunnel Mountain when we lived in Calgary. Spent many weekends there, around Banff and further up to Jasper. Miss it, we lived right off the Elbow River in town, Rideau Park area. Wouldn't mind moving back if the opportunity presents itself. We were last there in the run up to the Olympics, so it has been a while now.
