Hello All,

My name is Cody and I'm from just outside Portland, Oregon. My wife and I have three kids between the ages of 3 and 9 and also have a 1.5 year old German Shepherd. I was able to be gifted a 91 Jayco pop up trailer in decent shape. I just don't know much about it since I'm brand new at this. We want our kids to experience more outdoor/camping and figured this would be a great first step. Just hoping to get some help on fixing it up and any awesome ideas we can do for the inside to give us more storage or anything that can help make a camping trip easier on us. I want to paint it but not sure what the best product would be. Glad to be a part of the Pop up Family!

Welcome from northern Virginia. I was gifted my childhood 1990 Jayco 1006 which I used for many years until sadly the lift system broke and without a garage, tools, or even not being allowed to park it at home to fix I gave it away to my brother who actually used it as a fishing shack. Sadly I learned the hard way RV shops around me refuse to work on old units. So all repairs were on me. My Jayco was as bare bones as they came back then which pretty much was a stove and a tiny sink. Something I remember from mine is to watch that center seam and keep the caulking up very very well. In fact, be sure to tackle any cracking in caulk immediately. There is wood to rot inside the old Jayco roofs and the side walls can crumble if it gets wet. Sadly found that out the hard way myself. I loved my old Jayco though and it was a good solid camper as long as you keep on its maintenance. Be warned the old Jayco roof is aluminum with wood under that so if it rains it makes a ping sound. Takes some getting used to.
