I was rear ended while towing my Aliner on Oct 28. I previously covered this in a thread titled “Aliner Rear-Ended.” The woman seemingly was texting and did not brake until way too late. As of today I am calling repairs complete. The trailer was camp ready a week or so ago but I decided to replace all 4 corner moldings so that all four match again – old were white, they only make black now. So total costs:
2020 Ridgeline Truck Repair $12,480.35
2020 Ridgeline Diminished Value $777.50
2003 Aliner $3,491.73
Rental Vehicle $4,847.89
Damaged Contents ~$200
Total $21,797.47
These costs do not include her car which was totaled.
Insurance paid $3,492 for the trailer damage. Repair costs totaled $990 ($758 parts, $232 labor for trailer frame repair, $0 for my labor) Trailer repair completion was delayed as Aliner’s supplier’s mold for the corner moldings broke. We also had a few cold days that made garage work unpleasant.
We are still “dealing” with the insurance companies. We have not received our $500 deposit return on the truck repair. We need to be reimbursed for the rental vehicle from the insurance company of the woman who hit us. They are now going to argue with Enterprise as they now say we did not get their negotiated rate. Note that they told us diddly squat before I rented.
The Ridgeline was in the shop for 84 days. Thanksgiving and Christmas did not help. The truck drove fine before repairs but the trailer hitch ($559) was shoved thru the Ridgeline’s in bed trunk which entailed replacing a $6215 part.
So, the Ridgeline is as good as new. The Aliner is probably in slightly better condition. The corner moldings needed replacement due to small cracks, new taillights and side markers replaced the cracked wrap around taillights which are no longer made. All four stabilizers now use the same driver. The rear wall is not perfect (I just pounded out the aluminum and re insulated)but the worst of it is hidden behind the spare tire. I would not recommend getting rear ended.
