We don't have a key to the door on the Pup. If we could lock the door, it would give us a little more peace of mind, both by making theft slightly harder and by preventing the door from popping open when we're driving down the road.
Jayco has no replacement parts for this make/model/year. Do locksmiths deal with this sort of door lock? It's sort of like a screen door lock and I don't know if they work on such things or just replace them.
I'm pretty handy so I could probably replace the handle or the lock core or whatever is required if I knew where to start, what parts to buy, etc.

Anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Is there a key code number stamped on the lock anywhere? Most likely on the face where the key goes in.

Mine looks pretty much like a standard storm door latch. You might be able to find a replacement at Lowes or Home Depot.

If the door is popping open while driving, locking it won't solve the problem. You're going to need to figure out why the door is able to jar loose and open up. Fix that first.

Secondly, locking your pup only keeps out the honest crooks. Anyone who's ever owned a pup knows you can pop the door open just by reaching through an opened zipper. I just leave the door open. At least that way, they don't have to cut open the canvas or tear it apart to rummage through our cookware and blankets. Not much else in there.

We keep our valuables locked in the TV. Yeah, they can break the glass but the deductible is only $200. The deductible on the pup is $500, more than the value of whatever items anyone might steal.

If you need a new lock and key, you can find them on eBay easily enough.

For my Fleetwood they were apparently all the same from '97 to present. That was slightly alarming to me until I realized that anyone with a knife could also gain entry to the camper. I ordered a replacement off eBay and it worked. Not sure if this would be a similar situation for a Jayco. I'd imagine if you swing it by any locksmith they could have you a working key in 5 minutes for less than $10.

I guess I should revise my "anyone with a knife..." to "anybody with opposable thumbs..."

Well, I know canvas with zippers isn't exactly hard to get into, but I'm interested in making it just a bit less desirable of a target for the casual larcenous individual who just happens to be walking by and decides to take a look. Kids, particularly, might fall into this category.

The door doesn't open by itself but I'm always concerned it might. I thought locking it would make that less likely. Is that not correct?

Our used to pop open locked or not but it was because the whole back end could rock back and forth allowing the door frame to move. Now that I've replaced the floor, it's been smooth sailing.

That's the thing these days. You can leave your car door unlocked and they don't even flip the door handle to check if it's locked, they just smash the glass and grab whatever they can.

Knife or zippers, if it's unattended, a pup is a target. Thankfully, they're pretty safe in a CG as most people seem to keep an eye on things. We've never had any problems but, as I said, we lock all the valuables in the TV.

I don't think it would make it any less likely. It would only open by itself if the latch itself were loose, and locking isn't going to help that. That said, if you want to replace, you can go to pretty much any hardware store, these aren't RV specific kind of things.

I was able to be spare keys made at our local hardware store for the door....we also have a lock on the step that folds up and we have even been to a locksmith and they cannot get that key shape as it is a bulk key made in china and there is. I standard for it...some pup companies buy cheap key sets from overseas with. No possibility of repeating the key ... They told me it happens a lot and he could prob make something work if I brought him the lock, which I would just replace it if I took it out to a standard set...
