I cut off all of my old scissor jacks and put on 4 HFT jacks. Two of the factory jacks were rusted or seized up. Around $90 for all 4. I can cut and weld so install was pretty easy. Then i got an long extension and a swivel for the socket so I don't have to stoop to raise and lower. Always and option if you have a welder friend.

pics please or it didn't happen, seriously, sounds like a good affordable option, might help him and definitely me when the time comes.

Our Jayco Eagle had the drop down jacks from the factory, but a previous owner put scissor jacks on all four corners. If you use an electric drill or impact to raise and lower, you only have to bend over for a few seconds at a time. ;)
My 1999 Jayco had the same jacks. I went to Richardson's RV in Riverside and they installed scissor jacks on the four corners and left the the drop downs in place. It worked for years until we sold the Jayco. Now have a Chalet XL1930.

Dude, you are 72 years old and still rockin a pop up camper? More power to you!!! I would get some local high school to work on your trailer as a project, and have them add automatic actuators that are auto controlled by an automatic level system. Like the big RV motorhomes.

It would be fun for them, and as easy as parking it and pushing a button.

I dislike the flip down jacks for one very important reason. In our case the camper has fairly low ground clearance, and if the site is sloped any front to back, good luck flipping them down unless you block up the wheels to increase the clearance. At least the crank down style you don't have to worry about that. I retrofit some of those onto ours and it's a lot easier to deal with, and less chance of pinching yourself as well.

My old coleman had the fold down stabilizer jacks (rear only)
I had to bungy them up from falling and they were a pain so i cut them off.
I put a a storage box on front of camper and bought four scissor jacks from amazon
and stored them in there along with tools etc.
The camper set too low to permantely attach.
I love the scissor jacks...My current camper has them on all four corners.
With the drill attachment you bareley have to bend over to raise and lower them.

I plan to cut ours off, but didn't have a grinder at the time and haven't got around to it yet. :p

We found a good cleaning and lube helped on our Laredo. He's 65 with several back and joint disabilities from his service days and it was a PITA for us too.

We put the pup on jack stands so it was high enough to get under then got after it with a rubber mallet, followed by a drill with a wire brush, then wipe down until all residue was gone.

Repainted with a decent spray enamel, then lubed with a spray on silicone lubricant. Major change in function.

In our first use, we made a lot of mistakes, like pulling out the beds before we lowered the stabilizers. 🫣

We also marked the frame where each one is, so now we only need to squat and reach under instead of laying on the ground to find them.

Not saying @ swsmith, the OP has made mistakes. Just sharing what we found works for us.
