My elementary school used to visit there as well as the near by reptile center. In high school, the son of the ranger through a huge party at the ranger’s residence in the park when his dad was out of town. Good times, Love JD. If you keep following the loxahachee in a kayak, you will end up at Trapper Nelson’s famous zoo/ hide out. Tim Dorsey would write out JD SP in his fiction books.

JD is one of our favorites. We Park our PUP at the River campground. Five miles back from the entrance and pretty peaceful. Close to the camp store and restaurant with all the rental amenities and boat ride to Trapper Nelson's. Took our for year old granddaughter there for her first camping trip just before this current school year. Our 11 year old grandson has been with us to Tomoka, Highlands Hammock, and Silver Springs and he enjoyed going to the boat ramp nearby and catching a slew of crabs. Put them in his plastic critter container. We were entertained watching them burrow and fight for each other's holes. Allowed me to get the campfire going and chicken on.
