I was just told today to order additional 4's for my price signs. I would expect $4 per gallon within 6 weeks.

I was planning to use this so called economic stimulus plan money for vacation this year. The way gas prices are going it will not be enough and I will have to save it for gas to get to and from work. Either way it is going to buy gas. If I didn't work downtown I could set up the pop up in the parking lot and live out of it for the week and go home on weekends.

Happy Camping!

Both of my parents have a diesel Jetta. I always feel smug when I tell them that my 86 Honda Civic is getting 40 mpg regularly... And I pay less per gallon...

I started shopping today for a small motorcycle for commuting. My subcompact that gets 32mpg is no longer economical. Gotta double that mpg if I can. I'm afraid it won't pull the pup, tho. :) I can't believe I'm putting my almost new pickup in the garage, reserving only for trips with the pup. Giving my wife the Hyundai and putting myself on 2 wheels.

The focus on gas prices is a wag the dog ploy to take our attention from the real issues. Create a common enemy to blame all your woes on. In this case its BIG EVIL OIL. I hate high gas prices but telling oil companies how much profit they should make is very wrong. Who decides what is fare? I would be more pissed off if I went to fill up my vehicle and the station was out of gas. The price may be higher, but at least you can get it. Everyone expects the oil companies to lower the prices dueing rough times, but when has the government lowered the taxes collected on gas during rough times and if high gas prices take money out of the economy, meaning we have less to spend, wouldnt high gas taxes as well? We pay 50 cents a gallon taxes here in WA. OK I am done, Sorry for the Rant

I agree that the companies should not be told how much profit to make. The problem is there is no real control through competition in that industry like in other industries. It is obvious that oil companies get away with violating anti-trust laws, engaging in collusion, price-fixing, you name it. The Justice Dept. will go after a company like Microsoft or AT&T, even if there is little evidence to support it, they could easily do the same with oil. Now, I am a supporter of the Bush administration, and I KNOW he and the vice-pres. are in the business, but please don't accuse them of being the cause. It is much bigger than them alone, and has been underway long before.

Interesting chart...really shows a lot of what has happened to make these prices go nuts...oh by the way, yesterday I just paid $5.61 Canadian for an imperial gallon here in Ontario or it works out to $4.67 for a US gallon and as of today, our currencies are virtually the same (1.00 USD = 1.01988 CAD)....we can thank our Canadian government for implementing high taxes at the pump for this...

jpawlishn, I just now walked in from looking at one that SunL just started making. We have a distributor in town of the SunL brand scooter, which seems to be the most popular and most supported brand of the China imports. I went to look at the 150 and 250cc scooters and saw the new motorcycle with the 250cc scooter engine. It's a sport bike like a Ninja. I'm about to go to their website and look more in-depth. It is www.sunl.com

What was the barrels per day pumped back when oil was cheaper, vs todays amount pumped? If the amount being used stays relatively the same I would expect prices to remain fairly flat but if production go up with demand, then prices would reflect this. I am not defending the oil companies but to me gas prices are what they are. Lets nationalize the oil industry so the FED can screw that up as well. We can use the VA hospitals, the Highways, the bridges and everything else the goverment runs as a benchmark.

After seeing the "Bush bashing" chart I feel compelled to reply.
<font color=red><font size=4>DANGER!! POLITICAL RANT BELOW!!!</font id=size4></font id=red>
Not everything that happens in this country is the fault of the President. Do you remember when the Democrats took over Congress and Nancy Pelosi promised the lower the cost of fuel? She used it as one of her top issues - a bunch of the Dems did. Bush had let gas prices skyrocket and she had a plan to lower the price at the pump. Gas prices have DOUBLED since then. Where's Nancy's plan? The Republican just asked her that very question and she has yet to address it. The fact is that this country is sitting on enough oil in ANWAR and off the BOTH coasts to be completely self sufficient. The problem is that we have outlawed drilling for oil and building refineries in order to appease the environmental activists. We have chosen to be dependent on foreign oil. The spotten owl, caribou, and a moose are the reasons you're paying $4 a gallon - Not President Bush. (as an aside, after the Alaskan Pipeline was built in 1977 the wildlife flourished. The pipeline is warm and the animals gather near it to STAY ALIVE in the cold winter months)

Just be happy that you don't live in England where gas is selling for around $10 US per gallon. Let's stop searching for someone to blame and find a solution to the problem instead.

Yes, and you know, the price increases are really result of speculation. Any unrelated world event will cause the futures markets to go nuts.

Regardless of who is at fault, I am ready for this crisis to spur on development of alternatives, which are long overdue. Sure, some electric alternatives are not viable, hybrids are not living up to the hype. What about biodiesel? I have entertained the idea of making my own, or even a veggie oil conversion. How about hydrogen fuel cells? We have the technology, I'm ready to see us build the infrastructure to support these technologies. This may get it started on a larger scale.

jjacks.....thanks for the link. I will check into it.

Also remember that Bush wanted to tap into the reserves I believe in his first term.

UPDATE... THE SAME STATION THAT WAS $3.55 YESTERDAY WAS $3.59 TODAY.

You will see a big push towards alternative fuels as soon as the Government figures out a way to tax it. If overnight fuel economy doubled or some electric car could go 500 miles on a charge the States and Federal Governments would be loosing hundreds of million dollars. This is why I believe the EV1 in California was scraped. The state had no way of taxing the electricity you used at night to charge it. If you ar enot buying fuel, your not paying the gas taxes.

I'm sure you are right to an extent. When researching biodiesel and veg.oil conversions, I read about others who have done it, and were charged with tax evasion - evading fuel taxes!

Huh?

What bashing? It merely highlights the unfettered skyrocketing of oil prices that has occurred over the past several years.

I don't think Bush was responsible for the OPEC embargo, or the Iran/Iraq war.

Somehow or another, the price has managed to reach about 600% of the 1992 - 2000 price average. That's about $6000 per year additional fuel cost per household (in 2006 dollars), or 12.5% of median household income (and that's not including the domino effect it's had on raw materials & production costs).

Anyone here averaging a 12.5% per annum raise to compensate?

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>Nancy Pelosi promised the lower the cost of fuel<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Had Jonas Salk failed to cure Polio, I don't think I would have blamed him for the spread of the disease.

As I said, draw your own conclusion.
