Kansas City
January 29 is Kansas Day, celebrating the day in 1861 that Kansas was admitted to the Union as the 34th State. While Kansas Day normally comes and goes without much fanfare except from a few politicians trying to score points, this year marks the 150th anniversary of our state song Home on the Range.

Knee deep in kudzu
When my sister was very, very young, she liked that song. Though her lyrics were not standard, “… where the beer and the cantaloupe play.” Then again, she also thought Police sang “Message in a Volvo”.
