I put a piece of cardboard in the cabinet so all the air blows up through the hole in the counter. Cold air sinking and hot air rising doesn't matter as much in a small enclosed area with a fan blowing. Have not gone camping yet but might test it tonight, it is going to be real hot today.

Cold air sinks. I dont get how this will cool your pup ......

This has been a tried and true option for pups for decades. It works, but not as good as a rooftop. If you buy an Aliner or similar A-frame style camper the A/C is in a similar location as well from the factory. With some decent diversion and fans to help circulate I reckon it will make a difference. Window units are more efficient than portables anyway.

. With my old popup I kind of did something similar except mine was essentially pressed up against the screen resting on a shelving unit I had outside. I had to use a few fans to push the air, but you are right. I found the box nice and cool, but the bunkends where still toasty hot. So sure as heck not ideal for hot and humid climates, but should be more than sufficient for the White Mountains and other areas up north.

I ran the A.C. in the garage when it was 95 degrees outside, a little cooler in the garage. It got very cold in the camper. The install in the refrigerator location was very easy. I cut the hole for the A.C. and it is just inside of the two studs in the wall. Two pieces of 1" trim boards fit snug inside the wall on the top and bottom of the A.C. I got the A.C. last year for free on Craigslist and just used wood that I had around.

Oh ok!! I see now. So, the unit does or doesnt roll in and out? It looks like you put in a slanted panel to direct airflow UP Yes?

I don't have it on rollers. I just push it in and out and screw on a cover when travelling. Yes, I have a panel to direct the air up through the counter. The air blasts right up to the ceiling. I am going to make a television stand for the piece of counter that is behind the hole.

This is awesome. So, tell me more! I once saw this very same set up but the guy made his permanent by making it slide in and out. On rollers. So my question is how big is your pup? mine is the smallest kind-what temperature does it cool to in the heat of the summertime? I cant function if its higher than 76 degrees lol. Does it keep the beds cool at night? Thanks :)
