I just received my Starlink kit yesterday. I'll be setting it up at home this weekend. I ordered an adapter for my expandable flagpole so I can setup at a campsite. It will be interesting to see what kind of power requirements the unit has and since I would be using it mainly while dry camping, how my Jackery will handle the AC output.

I agree I'm kind of curious myself. Do I assume this is similar to a hot spot but for off grid use? My company laptop has something in place that prevent us from using hotspots etc. It only allows connection via WIFI. That has been my biggest hurdle in being able to work when camping.

Will be doing some tests on Sunday. First and foremost, how much power will it drain from my Jackery.

@jmkay1 have you tried using your cell-phone hard wired to your laptop? That's how I'm doing it now. The Starlink would let me connect where there is NO cell signal, like in the Beartooth Mtns, Yellowstone and Glacier. That's the plan anyway.

@jmkay1 tell your company "I would be glad to work while I'm away. But you have this stupid rule which prevents me". [:D][LOL]

mixed feelings about this. the one time i can get my crew completely disconnected is in the mountains. safety wise its a game changer. best we can do in an emergency is climb a hill and hope my radio can raise anyone.

If the problem is emergcy comms, there are pocket satellite devices that will suite you much better (and cheaper) than a starlink. When you use your radio,
@Patrick w It's a satellite transceiver. Click here to learn more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starlink
Im aware what the starlink is, I was inquiring how his company computer knew it was a hotspot(wifi) vs a wifi.

Isn't that as easy as just turning off the phone?
Unfortunately I can only do that for a limited time before I have to take care of something. So having communications lets me actually go camping with the family. Otherwise I couldn't go.

I'm looking forward to seeing your results with this. Definitely something that I've considered, since I work in IT and if I'm connected that could enable us to have extended trips :)
