Saw this on the local this morning, a "luxury RV park" planned for Southside Va., proposed by JCubas Holding; never heard of 'em, & sure as hay wouldn't stay at one, but the $$$ to get thru the gate has to be a crap load. With the construction of the Caesars Virginia casino in the area, guess maybe the high rollers will fill it up...

What's luxury about that? I a firm believer in different strokes for differnt folks, but I've never understood why people go to places like this.
Exactly; I'll never be convinced that set up is camping...council will most likely vote to allow for the taxes it'll generate. No doubt there will be a shuttle provided from the park to the casino...

Their idea of luxury is awful 😖. Sardines in a can.

I don't care what they call any of the fees. I look at the total cost. It doesn't make a difference to me if it's a $40 campsite or a $30 campsite with $10 in fees. Either way it's costing me $40.
And that's too much! National Forest campgrounds take the National Park pass, 1/2 price. I don't need special amenities. But if that's what you're used to then that's the way it is.

I just pulled out an example. I don't care if it's a $1 campsite or free with a $1 lock fee. Anyway it's costing me $1.

Update: I got there, and got the spot I reserved without paying the lock fee. But, it was pretty quiet this past weekend. In July... I doubt I would have been successful in getting the spot I wanted.

I'm not in favor of lock fees. IMHO, if you ALLOW me to pick a specific spot on your reservation system, it should either just give me that spot OR ask me before "Would you like to pick your specific spot for an additional fee, or be assigned upon arrival?" That way you don't go through the process of picking a spot only to be hit with a lock fee at the end of that process (which I assume is totally intentional).

I really don’t understand why this wouldn’t be a bait and switch situation under the law if you have paid for a reservation for A specific site.

You haven't yet paid for the site when they hit you with it.

Here's how it went for me:
What type of site do you want?
I'd like full hookup please
That will be $xx. Here are all of the full hook up sites. Which one do you want?
I like site 183
OK great. We can note that you would like site 183, but we may assign you a different site when you get here. If you want us to guarantee access to site 183, we would be happy to do that for an additional $10
$10??? (At this point, I'm imagining telling the granddaughter that she won't be meeting Yogi, so I don't cancel completely) No thanks, I'll take my chances. Here's my cc number.

Not legally bait and switch, but not exactly ethical IMHO.

I think paying the site lock fee is necessary to make sure you don't have to worry about the length of your stay. This is an important but optional extra cost that gives you the ability to book in advance and get the campsite you want for you, your friends, and your family to enjoy.
