Loud "clunk" in cable when winching roof up

The last two times I have winched up, there's been a very loud clunk when the roof is about 2' or so up. It does it one time. Then it is fine again. It makes the crank and cable shudder, you can feel it through the crank handle. It is alarming, it feels and sounds like the cable snapped. The sound is a metallic clang, like a cable snapping. And the cable is vibrating afterwards.

It is not the sound of the aluminum metal sleeves on the lift poles slipping around. It is much worse.

This started since I had the lift system routine maintained by the RV shop.

No idea what it is. One suspect is the cable is slipping off another wrap on the spindle. If that's what is happening, I would need to figure out how to get it to wrap properly. It's not something I would want to ignore, since it is quite violent.

Thanks

Can you provide the PUP's year, model, etc which gives us an idea of which lift system is used and will help further troubleshooting?

Mine makes a similar noise but it is the sleeves on the lift post finally slipping down so it is what you have already ruled out, and I don’t feel it in the cable or crank. I tried using dry lube on them but they still stick until about two feet raised.

As stated above, it appears that it is the cable on the spool realigning itself or the support brackets sleeves dropping into place. My pup did both of these on a regular basis. I never did get used to it. It always made me think the roof was about to crash down on me. But it never did. If it was my pup, I wouldn't worry about it unless there is a change in the amount of force it takes to lift or lower the roof.

Mine does the same as Dave's.....

It's a "new noise" though, following a repair. I think we need to rule out the fact that something was done properly at the repair.

I'd rally some additional people to stand around and try to watch what is actually happening/where the noise is coming from. My support posts drop when cranking up, but it isn't nearly as loud or scary sounding as what's being talked about here.

Mine does the same thing at the same height every time. I try to warn whoever might be raising the roof but the look of horror on their face is sometimes worth the comic relief after I preach about how delicate a pop up camper is 🤭🤭
