Is that an alum or cast DO? I have an alum one and am nervous about using it because of good/bad raps they get.
I've been using an aluminum Dutch for 15 years and it's great. Heats up very fast, cools off fast.
It's anodized though. I wouldn't use a plain cast aluminum Dutch.

For 350-375 degrees, 7-8 briquettes on the bottom, 15-18 on top. Depends on ambient temps. I use an infrared gun to check sometimes.

This two are Cast Aluminum which are in fine shape internally. As you can see, I have seasoned very heavily as well. I have others in cast iron as well, but these jobbers are pretty nice, used cooking finds. I've read that same stuff, too. No funny tastes or funniness to be concerned over using them. Eggs are bad, eggs are good, eggs for your hair, beer for your hair...

I try to count / be a good guy but eventually end up making a mini fire with sticks from the woods under the ovens. Danged kids can't be left alone with the fire~! OR Dutch Oven Stand.

We didn't camp this weekend, but got her popped up for the "after winter inspection". Mold/mildew as always, even with a cover on all winter... seemingly a never ending battle. Can't wait to get her out on the road this season.

With the upcoming Memorial Weekend, 1st let us remember those who served and their families for those who gave their full resolve for our country.

For me Memorial day is the official start of camping season, (even though I started in early April). Lets celebrate the holiday weekend with camping pics... Take pics this weekend and post em. Tell us what went right, and what went wrong...
First long trip with our camper. 4 hours to The Big South Fork Blue Heron campground for a couple days then north 2 hours to Red River Gorge. Koomer Ridge campground. Both were beautiful and I highly recommend them to anyone traveling in Eastern Kentucky. Only hitch was a small leak in the water fill hose but it was an easy fix. Solar panel worked better than expected.

Knee deep in kudzu
We’ve stayed at Blue Heron a couple times. I LOVE Big South Fork. We’ve not been to Red River Gorge. Will have to add that to the list.
