Here's the finished guitar I built for my grandson:





The little acoustic got put on hold as my friend is out of town. So, I'm working on a 4-string with a magnetic pick-up and a fretted neck. The box is made of 2 different species of mahogany, so I'm making the neck out of mahogany, with a maple "skunk stripe" running down the center. The fret board is walnut, with maple trim. The fret board isn't cut to width yet, so most of the maple in the picture will be trimmed off.

I promised to post pictures as soon as I finished xomething. Well, here are 3 very basic CBGs that I finished Thursday night. All 3 have peizo pick-ups, and are 3-string, fretless slide guitars. The white PDR 1878 box features an oak neck and gold hardware, while the other 2 feature poplar necks and silver hardware. The black Punch guitar sold yesterday, so I'm happy with that.

Shane Speal is the self-proclaimed King of the Cigar Box Guitar, and for good reason - he's primarily responsible for the vast majority of the info you'll find on the internet about them. He's co-authored several books on the subject and recorded at least 2 albums of his music. He and his father host open mic nights at their tavern, and anyone with a cigar box guitar is welcome to get up on stage and play. He's constantly touring and promoting the cigar box guitar, attending everything from trade shows to craft fairs and every music based event he can get to. That, and he's just a nice guy who's really passionate about music in general and cigar box music in particular.

Oh, and he can play too...
