Might you think about rigging up a ramp into the doorway, so he doesn't need to put extra weight on the back side to hop up the steps?

I'm so glad the surgery went well, and will add my hopes for a good recovery.
Thank you and good idea...We have a ramp at home on our back deck.
I could make one pretty easily....My wife thinks she remembers him bearing weight in a few days but that was 7 yrs ago.
I might make one when the trip gets closer depending on how he is recovering.
I may surf Amazon as well and just buy one once i get the measurements.

Sorry to hear this news about your dog. We have an almost 14 year old chocolate lab. When she was 11 she tore her CCL. Our vet told us of different surgery options and suggested that at her age we don't operate. With physio and a leg brace she can use the leg, almost as if it never happened, but it was a long recovery. With your dog's younger age in mind it sounds like you are choosing the very best option for him. I wish you and your dog all the best as he recovers.

Such a handsome boy! But his Union Suit is sliding down 😉. Had Lexie in a doggie “onesie” after her first surgery, little sh!t managed to worm out of it in the middle of the night! And NO I am NOT looking for sympathy (stated for the benefit of certain random poster)

Yeah that sleeve is a pain at potty time...Didn't take long to ditch the lamp shade.
