Hello to all. I've been lurking about for a few weeks and have really enjoyed exploring this community. So I decided to come out into the daylight...

My name is Steve and I live in southern California, about 10 minutes from Disneyland (we hear the fireworks every night!). My wife and I have 2 kids (grown and gone) of our own and a grand daughter that lives with us ("Life is what happens while you're busy making plans"). When my own kids were little we were involved in the YMCA Indian guides/princesses, and we have lots of wonderful memories from those camping trips. Back then it was a regular tent and sleeping bags on the ground. While I love to camp and am looking forward to making some new memories with our DGD, at 57 the thought of sleeping on the ground has lost most, if not all, of its appeal!

So while I don't yet own a pop up, I certainly intend to! We are renting a 2004 StarCraft 2411 from a private party and going on a 2-3 day trip to Big Bear, in our local mountains, right after the 4th of July. I've been ready to buy a camper since March, but my DW says "Let's rent one first and see how that goes" (Beautiful AND practical... I am a lucky man). So for now I am limited to looking and imagining, but I hope this coming trip will be a wonderful experience for all and I'll get permission :) to get one of our own! This will be our first experience with towing (TV is a 2002 Chevy Suburban) and camping in a tent trailer, and I'm really excited about it! In the mean time I will continue "my education" on this site, thanks to all you wonderful folks sharing your experience and wisdom. If all goes well, maybe I'll meet some of you at a rally this fall!
