Hello, fellow 89 Mustang owner! Hard-sided model?

I'm not 100% certain of my recollection, but my first thought is that it might have been on the drivers side support pillar that you lock in when setting up, and connect the lights at the top. I'd be glad to take pictures when it gets warm enough for me to pull my mustang hardwall out of storage and open it up.
Ours is a canvas sided model so it might be different. I'm thinking that it would probably be somewhere near the entry door honestly, but I can't find a picture anywhere.

I'll still let you know, when I pull it out of storage.

Is your heater in the bottom half of the kitchen module, down by the fridge, beneath the stove? or is the canvas-side one different? It would be weird to me if they had the heater on one side, and ran a wire all the way to the other side to hook up the thermostat.

Yeah, it’s supposed to mount where you’re saying. I haven’t mounted it yet but it is clearly framed to accept it.

Excellent.

Have you got any pictures of the mustang up? I'd love to compare the hard and soft wall versions
There’s a whole thread in the camper restoration projects forum of our restoration with pics. We didn’t change any of the layout apart from the cabinet doors and drawers. We are done apart from waiting on a new canvas and a few minor fixes. It’s under the cover right now taking a nap.

Does your furnace have the normal metal grate or something custom? The guy I bought the furnace from said it came out of a StarCraft and had a speaker grille like cover on it. I’ve always just seen the stamped metal grate but maybe? Lol

I'm pretty sure I have the standard factory faceplate on the heater. Attached is a picture of it in mine.

Picked up a 2003 Colt last year. Used it three times and like so many... i will never go back to a tent again. I have the original manual which is almost useless. In time, I will scan and upload it. Was in very good shape with no major "known" issues. besides the 3-way refrig not operating. Will decide at the end of this season if there is a need to replace it or convert the space into storage. I have been repacked the bearings, replaced the tires and rims, slowly been updated the lighting (LED), all exterior outlet covers, siliconed and added new grease to the lift system, added mats under the mattresses etc. I have never used it in the rain, but it does have a fair amount of a rubber cement type of glue on the cap/roof. You can see some delamination going on so next week I hope to clean off the glue, power wash the roof, take of the AC unit, those roof rails and paint the roof.

So, I'm out here looking at the wiring harness on the tongue of my 89 MXL Hardside. There's the obvious wiring for the brake lights, that's fine. And there's a SAE connector that I presume is for the battery connection. But, I want to confirm (A) that's what that does, and (B) does anyone know what the polarity is?

I too have some extra connectors on my wiring harness on the tongue. I was reading the refrigerator manual today, and it says polarity makes no difference. But I’m not so sure about the rest of the electrical parts.

Looking at the palamino in your profile, I think you and I live near(ish) each other. Is that the one that was on FB marketplace in Oshkosh?

Yes, she’s damn near perfect shape. I was really lucky to have gotten it. First trip planned is Road America, but I might have to take a inaugural trip before that.

Best thing to do is put a meter on it. If one of the pins has continuity with the frame, that's your negative. There should be a wire going into the converter labeled "Battery". Check for continuity between that and the other pin of the connector in question.

Oh, that's excellent. TYVM. I tried metering it to see if it was outputting voltage to charge the battery while I was on Shore Power, but either it doesnt, or I wasn't in the right mode to get results.

Once I've got polarity straightened out there, I'll have several redundant power systems

(1) Factory Power - Mostly for Backup. The lights are dimmer and warmer than the augmented LEDs are, but less efficient. 35ah Sealed Lead Acid battery on the hitch tongue. Recharged/Kept Full by 25ah Solar Panel kit or by Shore Power.

(2) Augmented Power - Primary in the Field. Bright LED lighting in main cabin, red rope light in front bed, green rope light in rear bed. Recharged Primarily by 200w HQST Solar Panels, topped off by shore/generator if necessaary.

(3) Backup/Portable Power - Duracell 600HD Power Pack. Basically a 28ah SLA Battery with an Inverter and charger in one portable package. Could feed either of the first two systems or roam away from the camper

(4) Disposable Power - Teritary/Frivolous use. I do Fire/Security alarm systems, so we go through a lot of lead acid batteries. Some of them get retired before their useful life is up. I'm going to amass a few of the better samples, charge them up before depature, and use them to run less important stuff like the TV/Game Console, or depending on how long it can run, the AC.

(5) LP/Gas Generator - Capable of running 10h on a full tank of gas, or 24h on a 20lb tank of propane. Utility limited mostly by where I can get away with running a generator.

Hi all. I have a 2002 (i think, sept 2002 is what's on the plate with the vin number) Palomino Mustang 6149. We put it up yesterday for the first time this season, and the manual was left out in the rain.

I cannot seem to find a copy anywhere online. Can anyone help me with a link?

Hi everyone, my wife and I just bought a 2001 Pony 17 off Facebook that was in the process of being remodeled. All of the plumbing, the fold down sink cabinet, refrigerator, and stove top were removed before we purchased it and I’m mainly trying to piece together how it was all set up originally so that I can modify to my liking. The problem I’m running into is finding pictures of a Pony 17 or a Pony that’s close to the same age that has interior pictures, not just exterior. I’m really looking for pictures of how it was set up underneath the bench seat where the water tank was, how the heater was installed, how the sink was set up, all that stuff. If anyone has any pictures or links I’d really appreciate it.

Also I’m thinking about putting a window ac unit in one of the cabinet spaces and any googling I do about how to vent one out leads me in circles. If anyone has any links or ideas on how to do it would be great

Thanks again and thanks for having me!

You won't find a model specific manual anywhere, even contacting the manufacturer you won't find one, that because in 2004/05 Palomino had a fire in one of their buildings and it happens that building was the building that housed all the manuals, diagrams, warranties etc. Best you will find is a generic manual that covers all of their popups and that is missing model specific things like water heater bypass, slide-out adjustments and even upgraded awning info, I will check and see if I still have the pdf file for our 2004 Palomino kicking around (well I know I have it, finding it will be the hard part).
