Pop up that you don’t have to dismantle bed?

Are there lightweight (under 3500 lbs) pop ups that the lid sits high enough that you can keep the bed mattress, foam topper and blankets on when you close it?

We’d like to do a long driving trip and spend single nights along the way. We’re wondering if there are pop ups that require less set up and breakdown time for trips like this.

Appreciate any recommendations if this exists.

If you are doing quick one-nighter’s, maybe an A-Frame would be a good option??
It’s on our radar but we do like having 2 beds and the smaller A frames seem to have 1 bed (unless using the dinette) and we’d like to avoid setting up and breaking down.

It seems like it would be a selling point for a pop up to have a lid that’s 5” higher? Or maybe that’s just us

You can close up some with a mattress and bedding on it. I always stripped the bedding as the tenting would hit it, so it would get dirty. So , you can do sleeping bags? Depends on the camper.

Minus our bedding...We have 3 inch memory foam on top of our factory mattress's and i have to push down maybe a 1/2 to a 1 inch to latch down our roof.
After about 15 min the memory foam collapses enough i adjust the latches right before i leave.
The roof on mine is pretty deep so its not a problem.
Our bedding is notthing more than a thin blanket over the memory foam and puffer blankets that roll up and have their own bags they fit in...Like sleeping bags without zippers.

We’v got a Rockwood 1940LTD. So 10’ box and 1650lbs listed dry weight (I figure about 2k lbs in reality before loading it up). We have a 2” good quality memory foam mattress topper and we put the sheets and blanket on prior to heading out and it collapses no problem. We’re pretty happy with the comfort level. Pillows need to go on the table during travel, but that’s pretty minor. I’m all about as little setup as possible once we get to the site!

Sounds like we should try letting our topper collapse over a 15 min period and maybe we can close our top. Thx!

It all depends on the camper, they all have diffrent clearnaces. Addtionally , it depends on how neet you pack the canvas. Try the tissue box test. Put an empty box on the bed then close it up. If you didnt squish the box you have that much room. If you squished it, you have the amput of room that didnt get squished.

You have a temendous amount of stuff on top of your bed and then you expect to close the roof on top of that? Pretty optimistic at best. First thing would be to replace he mattresses with ones you don't need an additional topper for.

I know I have not had a pop up, or pop top where I could not keep sheets and blankets or sleeping bags / made bed on the bed and close the top. I just have to remove the pillows. Not a big deal. But adding a foam topper typically adds a couple of inches. You may be able to squish it down when you put the top down, but it would probably be hard on everything, including you...

We added an egg crate foam topper, usually have 2 sheets and a blanket. I do fold the canvas neatly, but it all fits in with the roof down. All we need to remove is pillows (now if I could figure out how to fit the pillows it would be a game changer. With pillows for 6, it feels like that's about all we can fit in the TV!).

We have done this and don’t have the clearance we want although will try waiting 15 min for the foam topper to compress.

What I am asking is which pop ups have the most clearance.

I'm not sure roof clearance is something Ive ever seen listed in info on popups. There are so many hundreds, if not thousands, of brands and models that have been made, it is a difficult questions. One of the reasons many like the hybrid popups is the ability to "turtle", to camp without extending the bunks. The A-frames might be a good option, although we never liked any we looked at.
I did a 3+-week solo cross country with our first popup, after we renovated it in 2010. I did quite a few over-nights, and it did get old pretty quickly. In that tiny (6' box, one bunk end) popup, no matter what, there was a lot of cargo-shifting at set-up and take-down, so the bed just added to it. I made it as simple as possible, using real bedding.
Second popup, which was an 8' box with 2 bunk ends, did require letting the memory foam settle. We could only leave the bottom mattress pad and sheet on that bed once we added the memory foam. We had a pretty good routine for set-up, and again, there was general cargo shifting involved anyway. We did overnight stops when necessary with it.
When we had to move to a TT due to my creaky joints, my husband's only request, beyond budget and size limitations, was for a bed that stayed made up (that's his job at home too), so yup, it can be annoying.

I’m thinking that it would be a smart move for pop up manufacturers to make lids with higher clearance as a selling point! :)

The Coleman Niagra that I had / had to sell I could leave the bed fully made with the puffiest of sleeping bags and a couple of big old memory foam pillows. I was never IN the camper with the top down, but it seemed like there was about 3" of space between the bed level and the roof. But that is honestly a guess...

I have heard from other owners that Coleman / Fleetwood made pop ups tend to have room to leave the beds made. You are adding the topper and didn't specify thickness, but I suspect with some squish you could make it work.

Thats the problem, some have diffrent roofs added under warranty. They may or may not be diffrent heights. Plus you had mattress choices, some were deluxe, some weren't. I think all colman mattresses were about 4 inches. When I had my pop up the mattress were delux with the vinyl covering on both sides and thicker then the stock ones. I had the puzzle peice matts underneath. We could leave the bed made, but after packing up in the rain , never did it again. The bedding got dirty and soaked. If the PO changed the mattress, or added stuff the clearance verys. Addtionally, whats good for you may not be good for the next guy. Thats why I think maybe getting a newer matterss may be the best bet. Especially if yours is original. In the colman parts diagrams they list a mattress height ( according to colman pop up parts) Trailmanors , I think have more room.

I have a 2008 Coleman I mean Fleetwood highwall and the exterior of the tenting doesn't touch the inside bed at all. That sounds icky and explains why there are so many posts about cleaning the exterior canvas. :D

We scoot everything (except fitted sheet/mattress cover) onto the couch because it takes less time than trying to fold neatly would. (The couch is pretty handy for this, plus we use sleeping bags.)
