propane firepits

I just look at mine and rejoice in the fact that a turn of a dial turns it off and I’m not moving my chair due to smoke.

i just bought and tried mine at the last campground and I was facing more wind than I usually felt comfortable burning a real fire with. I was hesitant to try the propane pit but was very surprised. The flames didn’t bounce around much at all or blow out. It stayed a continuous steady flame. Even more it was a first time I didn’t have to play ring around the fire trying to keep out of the smoke trail. Like you said no having to find someone to babysit a fire if i needed to step away. It’s going to take getting used to hearing the continuous hiss and the woosh of fire as you light the pit And the heat output. Best part I got to drive past those expensive moist bundles of wood sold.

Is there a secret to doing marshmallows on these things? We bought the Costco one, but every attempt to roast marchmallows ended up as a tiki torch, no matter how careful we were. What's your secret?

I just keep them a little higher so they get the heat but below burning, then I dip it lower to get a good char. You can't have a roasted marshmallow without a nice char on it. Something about blowing out the flames and eating it makes it taste better to me.

I've been using the Camp Chef Propane Campfire for years. If you look real close, you can see the line going back to the camper.

Thank you for posting the pic. I purchased one and took it camping. I LOVE it! My teenagers got up earlier than us and had the fire going while we slept in. I don't think I'll ever go camping without it.

All the propane fire pits I've seen require no power. Just a gas line to an LP tank. I did use our Little Red Campfire with 1# propane, with a "steak saver" adapter, but it gives more even flame with a bulk tank. Now that we have space in the truck bed, we take an extra 20# tank; I just bought a 1 gallon tank to use with it or my single burner stove.

This is off subject but your post reminded me . . . I got a 1 gallon tank after you talked of it somewhere else, but I bought the wrong 'cord'. It's missing a little center piece that all stoves have/need. Was disappointed last camp trip. Now back to the research. Maybe you have a handy link to the cord you got to go from the one gallon tank to your stove. Also, did you find a grate to use on your firepit? I want to try that as well

The first hose I bought didn't connect to the single burner stove I'll mostly use the small LP tank with, but the second one did. (I ended up with this one: )
The hose that came with our Camco Little Red Campfire connects to any size LP tank, as is. TO use that with the 1# propane thaks as we did at first required something called a Steaksaver.
I did buy a sort of grate to use with the LRC, it was made by Camco and they also make one to use with their larger propane pit (F4X589VZOTS&keywords=camco+fire+pit&qid=1663374900&s=sporting-goods&sprefix=camco+fire+pit%2Csporting%2C182&sr=1-20) I don't know if either fit other prpane pits. I planned to use ours mostly if I ever needed to actyually cook on the LRC, but we now have enough redundancy of cooking options on any given trip that it hasn't come up again.

If you can’t find the correct hose check out propanegear.com- they have all kinds of connections and hoses- bought a quick connect and longer hose to add to our fire pit- works great
