Propane Regulator Location

The pop-up we got 2 years back had a a sad looking propane setup. The hoses were cracked, the regulator looked ancient so I pulled them off the the trailer.
Last year was the year of the electrical improvements, this year it's propane's turn. The old Regulator was a horizontal mount on the front of the trailer body. I've been looking at replacements.

I'm seeing a whole lot of options of tank mounted regulators with hoses, and a few 'trailer' mounted regulators which are sold without hoses and strangely each hose costs more than the regulator?!?

My main question is, are tank mounted regulators safe? It seems like there might be a lot of down force on the tank connection, especially while driving. I know my BBQ has a tank mounted regulator but it's a single stage and it doesn't get bounced around at 90 kph.

I think they’re safe. If your worried, just take it off the tank and get a Niteyz cable and attach it to the handle. It’ll only take a few seconds to screw it onto the tank. I tow with it attached.

Simple and effective. The tank valve has to be shut to travel and opened to use, so what's a few extra seconds to screw on/off a regulator...

My tank stay full open when traveling, it's how the fridge keeps the beer cold and icecream stays frozen in the freezer.

No problem with traveling with the tank open for refrigerator use, but most state laws require the tank be shut off along with all flames before pulling into a gas station.

Another question I have is do I have to replace the hoses, also I camped this weekend and didn't get any gas to the stove top. There is plenty of gas in the tank. A camper next to me hooked a portable camping stove to my tank and it did light. So I'm assuming it's the regulator that is attached to my camper. Thanks.
