I looked under "AC noisy fan" and other search titles and cannot find what I am trying figure out. Our Coleman Mach rooftop unit is so noisy (even on low) that it got me wondering if there is a solution to this problem or will we just have to live with it? It is sure nice to have cool air inside the pup but in the evening, a conversation or listening to the news is very difficult. This last trip it was...cool down the camper, AC off. Talk a bit while eating dinner, then AC back on. When it is hot and muggy outside, it is nice to eat in the camper (or take a nap) but wow...these units sure crank up the decibels along with the cool air. I estimate it at about 85db, about what my air compressor makes when running. Anyone have experience with modding these or installing a part that would back the fan speed down while not affecting the compressor or reducing the overall cooling by too much? If so...please let me know. Thanks!!

Remove the ceiling unit ( just half on by screws) and check the fan for trash etc “Snug up the four mounting bolts. And check the duct condition. This would be the first step and may help. Good luck

The Aliner has a window/through wall unit. I found it far preferable to the roof mount unit in my toy hauler. Good gawd that roof mount is loud. I hate it. Like you say, it’s nice to be able to keep things cool but we do what e can to avoid using it. I yearn for something like the Inverter A/C window unit I have in my upstairs office at home. It is the quietest A/C I’ve ever had. Wonder if anyone makes one fit campers.

If it is not loose, it's probably just how loud it is. I've always thought roof units were noisy. Our side-mounted a/c is not as bad a most, but even that gets on my nerves after a while. There is at least one newer brand of RV roof units that is supposed to be not as noisy, but I haven't seen much about it.
In part, I think it's partially the unit, partially having the machinery running on a sound board (roof or wall) in a small space. The roof unit on our friends' Casita sounds loud to me, and they have carpeting on the walls.

Thanks for input, folks. I went down the "rabbit hole" of the web researching this question for about 2 hours and, man, there are so many comments on this. I do agree that the roof of the pup is basically a "sound board" for the AC. It seems that if the fan is slowed down it could lead to freezing the coils. Maybe so...but WOW! I might chance it IF there was a way to do it...but I found none listed. I will do those maintenance items and see if it helps any. One interesting point on this... When we first got the Jayco and I was doing some cleaning inside and making sure the filters were clean (they did need some attention) I completely removed the big plastic ceiling shroud and could see that the incoming rush of air has to make a 90 degree turn by blasting against the bottom of the plastic shroud and then rushing out of the end vents. In turn, these vents have directional louvers to help aim the air where needed. A 100 mile per hour air blast (might be a slight exaggeration) coming down and then making twists and turns to be directed could possibly (LOL) lead to excess wind noise. You think?? Anyway, when the AC is running, without the shroud in place, it is MUCH quieter. So, I was thinking that if I got a duct around 4 to 6 inches in diameter that would have a 2 way exit and I could attach (with duct tape?) right to the air outlet up in the AC unit, it would run quieter (though looking rather strange and "steam punkish), it would help quiet down the 747 air blast noise. I will do some looking around my local big box hardware stores, and maybe a few HVAC dealers around here and see what I can come up with. When air moves through a larger opening it really is much quieter. When I ran the AC with just the downward duct directing the air, it was many decibels quieter...but if you stood underneath you better hold on to your toupee!! Any thoughts on this again MUCH appreciated. We will not be camping again until October, way too hot here now (last week in the low 90's!) so I will have a few months to experiment on this. Any results good or bad will be reported. I will do a decibel rating before and after to see if it is just my imagination, or is it really working. Thanks Again folks!!

My current TT is the first camper I had equipped with a/c… and it was LOUD. About two years ago I installed the a/c silencer kit (made for ducted a/c setups) and it is awesome! This really won’t help the OP, but may be something other TT owners would care to consider.

I have thought about adding that to my TT but like the air dump too much on really hot days when I come in from outside. 😅
