Three Frogs CG near Darby MT

This is a Forest Service campground above Lake Como. The campground has been recently redone, with new gravel pads, vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings. Generally, privacy is based more on site separation than vegetation.

The campground curves up the hillside and makes a loop at the top. Site 21 has a view of the lake below. Some sites near the exit overlook a pond frequented by moose (rumor only, we never saw one).

Water is available near the entrance to the campground (across from the host site) and near the exit. We filled the tank on the way out.

Good hiking around the lake, but summer weekends may be noisy with jet skis.

This place is a bargain at $8/ night in 2014.

Three Frogs is a fantastic site, but closes for the winter.

There are many excellent areas still open around Lake Como, but it is all boondocking.
On the plus side, there are no fees to camp out just off the forest service roads.

Just rode to the falls last week on the North Trail. (Mountain Biking)
No others around, no tourists, sightseers, boaters, campers, no one.

It was sublime.

Since redoing Three Frogs it really is a great site excepting for that "moose pond"...it is a mosquito breeding haven come summertime.
(Bring the DEET because you will come out a pint short otherwise).

Happy Trails.
