Tinted window replacement

Hi, I'm remaking my canvas for my popup and was planning on reusing the tinted windows in the new canvas. Upon further inspection I've found damage that has me wanting to go ahead and replace it.
Does anyone know the mil thickness the oem stuff is and where I could purchase it (tinted) by the yard?

When we planned on making new tenting for our '84 Palomino we, found window vinyl from Seattle Fabrics. We decided to have CR do it and used a lot of the fabric we bought for other projects, still working on uses for the window vinyl (we wanted clear, if we're in the pup during the day, it is usually dark, rainy and gloomy).

Thanks for the replies. I opted on going with the clear for several reasons. The first and likely the main reason is that I couldn't find tinted locally and wasn't sure enough about the thickness to order it. Secondly, I was able to get the clear locally and get it sewn together asap. And lastly, I thought more about what kitphantom was saying about the clear vs tinted.
Anyway, clear it is
(19ga BTW) It looks like the oem is 12ga but I wanted it to be a little thicker.

Probably too late to chime in, but did you get UV rated vinyl? The lightest I could find on-line was 30 mil and I went with clear as well. I hated the tinted - too dark inside!

Yes, it's UV rated. I got it From a upholstery supply house locally that I use very often.

OK It's done! well almost LOL It is sewn and on with Sunbrella canvas, clear UV rated windows and UV thread Pics. to follow. They are on my phone and I can't get them to load using tap a talk.

I think it turned out very well if I do say so myself.

TY I hope to redo the awning and bag to match as well as skirts around the bunks to hide anything that we may want to keep under them.

If I may offer some unsolicited advice? Get some weatherproofing on that canvas ASAP. Sunbrella recommends 303 High Tech Fabric Protectant. It's kind of pricey, but it works really well. If you find that seams are leaking in the rain even after weatherproofing, Iosso seam sealer is good stuff too.

Going with the canvas for the bunk end ceilings is different. I haven't seen that done in a long time. The older Appleby, Higgins, and a few other models were canvas from stem to stern like that, and if the weatherproofing is kept up at the right intervals, you shouldn't have any problems. In cooler weather, a set of Pop-Up Gizmos might prove to be invaluable. You might not think it, but vinyl does reflect heat back into the bunk end a lot better than fabric does.

I see that you sewed a few seams on the outside of the canvas. You might want to get some seam binding made for heavier fabrics and cover those seams. Wind will drive rain in between the layers of fabric, setting up potentially serious leaks. A very strong gust of wind can also catch an unbound seam and rip it. Bind up those seams in some sew on seam binding, and you'll have no trouble at all. Sailrite carries Sunbrella binding tape, sold by the foot, so chances are they have some in a color that'll match or contrast your fabric perfectly.

Speaking of seams - if you didn't cut the fabric with a hot knife, you might want to go over the cut edges of the fabric with a hot soldering iron to melt the fibers together so the fabric doesn't unravel. Do that before you bind them, of course. Just about all woven and knit synthetic fabrics need to be cut with a hot knife for just that reason, but they're really expensive - like $220 for a starter kit. Hitting the cut edges with a hot soldering iron will do the trick just fine - that's how I do it.

All in all, you did a fantastic job. That's a pretty big project to tackle - even if you're experienced with sewing heavy fabrics. Nice work!

Lol I love advice unsolicited or not.
I didn't cut it with a hot knife but all of the seams are rolled under so there are very few exposed raw edges. I hit it with camp dry as soon as it was on... and a good thing too, it started pouring rain later that day. So far it is high and dry. I plan on making a cover that will cover it from end to end. It's hard to explain but I kinda have a plan. But so far we're still dry.

Hi looks great! I have a 10 ft eagle and was wondering how how hard it was to put the canvas back up on yours? I need to remove mine to do some roof repairs but I want to know what kind of difficulty I'm looking at. Seems like it will be a huge pain so I am dreading it.

Your new canvas looks great. I have a couple questions:

• Did you use the old canvas as a template?
• What kind and how much fabric did you use?

I want to get to do some camping done before I attempt to do anything like that.
