Universal hitch

I am on a very limited budget for my spoils, aka popup stuff. Between gas to get to the work, insurance, mortgage and bills, I have limited resources for " popup fun". Tent, I can do, I'm all stocked. Over stocked. So I saw an ad for a universal hitch that is used. Questions are: what's the percent that uses vehicle specific vs universal? Percentage new vs used?
I know to check structural integrity, I'd probably go with grade indestructible bolts all the way around, weld what I needed and spruce the gal up with a fresh coat of paint. It's a $120 difference if not more. That money could cover 2 of the new tires I need and possibly some other goodies.
Cheers!

Did you check etrailer.com, I'm not seeing that big of a price difference. Universal receivers are more complex to install, require drilling 1/2 holes in the frame rails and require special hardware to be used inside of the rails where you're not going to be able to use a wrench. If you go with universal make sure that grade 8 hardware is included in the purchase.

I'm Mr. Overkill so it would be grade 8 or higher, loctite and possibly a tack weld.

What vehicle do you need a hitch for?

Drop hitch from HFT and it's an 01 dodge Dakota. Might be able to score a brake controller and wiring harness off a friend before he sells his Denali. A lot of what I come by us is trade or steal.. navy taught me well to comshaw. Just wanted opinions. I've been to several county institutions and learned in the mil not to turn down second hand things if they work.....
