We have a 2012 Viking 2109 popup. It doesn't require bed support poles. The beds are held up by internal cables.
I'm curious if other makes and models have this feature. And if you have any issues with the stability of the beds.

I believe it’s only Viking and clipper that have this design. I could be wrong though. It is an interesting concept. Always questioned longevity and even weight. However I don’t have one myself so my thoughts are purely just ramblings. I have not done any research on it myself. If I was to look into buying one a question I would want to find out is what did the manufacturer do the strengthen the anchor points? The anchor points I feel are the weakest link. Popups Are not known to use solid wood hence my question.

We had the support cables on our Coachman Clipper pop-up. As a bed support, the beds never felt unstable or unsafe. However, as a taller person (6'2"), I found the cables cut into my head and foot room. The cables would also often get caught on the bed slide during set up.
I'll agree with that

I had a viking before going dark. It had the cable system for the bunk ens. I had no issues other than having to be a bit careful raising and lowering it to make sure a cable didn't snag. When I had parts of it exposed, it's basically a suspension bridge. We had no issues with sagging or excess rocking on it either. I found it to be a good system and easy to set up.

My pup is a Viking with cables for bunks. No issues with support, comfort or stability. For that it's awesome. That said, there are drawbacks such as getting caught while popping up, attachment points snagging bedding and the side panel canvas can't be laid flat for cleaning because the cables are in the way.

One simple bonuses of no support poles... under bunk mini garage for putting bikes during rain storms means no wet seat!

Do you know the year and model? Just curious how many years they made them.

My Coachman Clipper has the internal cables. I haven't had a problem with them yet! Stability is fine, and setup is easy. Do be careful that the cable doesn't get caught in the rail when you close up.
Cheers

I'm curious about this design as I've never seen one (to notice it). I'm assuming there is a cable where I've shown the yellow line? And if so, is the red circle a counter support for the cable on the other end (not shown in the picture)? What keeps the top from pulling to one side or the other from the lateral pull on the cable?

The yellow line is correct, that would be where the cable support is located. I base that on the one I saw in Colorado last year. I personally don't care for the design but I guess it works. I don't think that 20 years after the date of manufacture I would trust the setup. Hanging something from cables, from something else that is also supported by cables, is not my idea of safe.

You are right about the yellow line. Where you've circled in red you can see from the inside. I'm not sure what these cables do.

they keep the center part of the PopUp from going to one side or the other.

Cable support bunks do not lead to door gap opening with age (door gap closing [A])

This is still how they are done in Vikings. Our 2021 2308ls has them. They work good, they are a little unsightly as they are visible in front of the window. But Better than relying on 3/4" conduit to support you.

That is the one feature that sold us on ours vs the Jayco...And the glide lock bed rails are so smooth.
